A nine member ophthalmologists committee led by Dr. Syne from Australian government had visited Jigawa State, Nigeria, with a view to review and evaluate primary eye care programme in the state.

Speaking while inspecting patients at Kiyawa the team leader, Dr Syne, said that they were in the country particularly Jigawa State in order to see what was happening, what were the challenges and what were the difficulties encountered in executing the programme if any.

Dr Syne added that the primary eye care programme was being sponsored in partnership with Nigeria and Australia with a view to tackle eye infections such as anchorcerciasis among others. The team leader said the support programme was under the Vision 2020 with a view to eradicate the symptoms of all types of eye disease in Nigeria.
