Macular Degeneration Awareness Week
Macular Degeneration Awareness Week will be held this year from 21 to 27 May. Macular Degeneration Awareness Week is an annual event designed to raise awareness of macular degeneration and to encourage those most at risk, people over 50, to have their eyes tested and macula checked.
According to Macular Disease Foundation Australia there are 1.25 million people who have some prevalence of macular degeneration and 8 million Australians who are “at risk”. Two in three Australians over the age of 50 are now having regular eye checks. In less than one decade, the rate of regular eye checks have increased from 33% to 86%, a world-standard for changing health behaviour, saving sight and changing lives.
