Johnny Depp Wears AM Eyewear

Johnny Depp in AM EyewearThe actor Johnny Depp has been spotted in multiple occasions during the ongoing trial, that has been all over the media across the globe, wearing the AM Eyewear model Ava, in the colour Mellow Yellow (SKU 72-MY-GN).

The actor purchased the frames when he was filming in Australia, wearing it until this day, and these timeless AM Eyewear sunglasses were the choice to compose the outfit for the trial, an event that has caught the attention of many worldwide. Consequently, AM Eyewear has received many inquiries from customers regarding this style.

Founded in Australia during 2003, AM Eyewear established an artisan approach to crafting exceptional eyewear – upscale daily staples for the fashion-conscious. Over the last 18 years, AM has matured into a global lifestyle brand. Each set of frames forms as an extension of a person; a personality with soul, and a life well beyond a mere fashion item. Born out of a fanatical love of old school frames that were difficult to find in Australia, AM Eyewear has grown rapidly from a cheeky young upstart into a cult brand respected around the globe.

Building on its Australian Made namesake, AM quickly matured into global wholesale company for their leading optical and fashion stockists around the world. Handcrafted sunglasses using combination of premium materials, its frames are fitted with co-branded nylon Zeiss lenses coated with Gold ET AR back coating. The industry where multinational companies are numbers sold, AM Eyewear’s ethos is creator of sunglasses and optic eyewear and not counter of eyewear.

UPDATE 06 June 2022:

AM Eyewear feels the pressure to rerelease one of its Limited edition frames after Johnny Depp wore it 8 times in the final weeks of his landmark trial. Not since OJ Simpson have we seen a celebrity court case draw such large attention from the public, and for Australian Eyewear brand AM Eyewear it has brought attention to its limited edition collections.

18 year veteran brand AM Eyewear has always been a brand for the eyewear aficionado who looks for something not in the mainstream, each year releasing a number of limited edition colour ways to accompany the main collection. Founder Simon (Kumar) Ponnusamy says "people in fashion circles treat our Limited edition colours like sneaker collectors treat limited edition sneakers. We have people emailing us to find out the day they'll go on sale and they collect them”.

In the past week, after the buzz of Johnny Depp wearing one of their Limited Edition frames from 8 years ago, AM Eyewear has seen the style skyrocketing in demand with hundreds of requests on their Instagram and email, enquiring about the frame and demanding a re-release. The Ava in Yellow Mellow, the style worn by the actor during the trial, has also appeared on eBay being sold by a customer for AUD$2000.

This is not the first time an AM Eyewear frame has demanded such a high price,  with the ZEISS X AM EYEWEAR collaboration which was released 4 years ago and limited to 400 units frequently appearing online for much higher than its original €400 price tag. Ponnusamy confirms that even with the high demand, the “Johnny Depp frame” will not be reproduced as it would defeat the purpose of it being a limited edition, but he adds that after all the requests they received, he feels it’s only fair that the colour-way is reproduced in a new style and for the proceeds from its sales to go to a domestic violence charity.
