Rise of Complaints Against Optometrists
Health regulator Ahpra has received "notifications" concerning 17 more optometrists than at this time last year, a 38% increase, indicating that complaints against Australian optometrists are on the rise.
On Tuesday, November 22, the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) published its annual report for 2021/22 and included the most recent information on optometry complaints.
According to information from the NSW Health Professional Councils Authority and Queensland's Office of the Health Ombudsman, there were 68 notices filed against 61 optometrists (OHO). In contrast, 44 optometrists received complaints in 2020–21.
