The Optical Distributors and Manufacturers Association (ODMA) has announced the appointment of Amanda Trotman as its new CEO. Ms. Trotman, who has served as Acting CEO for over a year while Finola Carey was on long service leave, will take on the role full-time following Carey's resignation after 27 years of service.
Ms.Trotman expressed her enthusiasm for the role, stating that she has "immensely enjoyed" her time as Acting CEO and that she feels she fits well in the optical industry. She highlighted her varied industry experience and range of skills, including events and marketing, which she believes will be well utilized given ODMA's focus on live events.
The board emphasized the importance of finding the right person for the role, considering key attributes and cultural fit. Following a performance review by the HR Sub-Committee, the board unanimously voted that Trotman had demonstrated the required qualities to meet the challenges of the role.
Rob Sparkes, ODMA Board Chair, expressed his delight in welcoming Trotman as the new CEO, stating that she has demonstrated remarkable ability to work with the board, the industry, and partners over the past 18 months. Trotman's achievements to date include delivering a successful OSHOW22 event, opening up collaborative opportunities with multiple industry players, and implementing detailed reporting across multiple business areas.
Ms.Trotman's previous experience includes project management and marketing roles with major corporations and business development roles with not-for-profits. She has also launched and managed her own enterprises in event management and small business coaching. Trotman holds a Bachelor of Business and a Post Graduate qualification in Tourism and Event Management. She was ranked 15th on the Business Review Weekly self-made female entrepreneur list and was a Telstra Small Business Award NSW finalist. She also served on the Meetings Industry Association of Australia NSW Board and most recently served as executive director for the jeweler's trade association.
Ms. Trotman stated, “I am excited to continue taking the role forward and in building more great relationships and continuing the strong presence and stability that ODMA has accomplished for many years. I am excited to progress my continued learning and assist in finding solutions to challenges that arise for ODMA members. I look forward to helping take ODMA into the future by being a collaborative, organised and committed CEO for the ODMA board and ODMA members.”
