The Fred Hollows Foundation of Australia, Rohto Pharmaceutical of Japan, and TVM Capital Healthcare of Singapore and Dubai jointly announced the successful completion of a substantial equity investment in Alina Vision, a prominent player in the eye care sector currently managing two hospitals in Vietnam.
Founded in 2018 by The Fred Hollows Foundation, an international development organization, Alina Vision has garnered substantial support over the past five years from both The Fred Hollows Foundation and Rohto Pharmaceutical. This backing includes financial investment, eye surgery training, and clinical support, enabling Alina Vision to grow from its inception to a workforce of over 80 employees across two eye hospitals.
In 2023 alone, Alina Vision performed over 2,800 cataract surgeries, demonstrating its commitment to addressing the pressing issue of cataract-related blindness, particularly affecting individuals aged 50 and above, predominantly women, in Vietnam. The demand for cataract surgeries is projected to surge, surpassing the available service supply.
To fuel its expansion and enhance the quality of care, Alina Vision has successfully secured a significant investment from TVM Capital Healthcare, a renowned industry specialist growth capital investor. This investment not only provides Alina Vision with essential equity capital but also grants access to operational, clinical, training, and management resources. This strategic partnership is expected to accelerate Alina Vision's growth plans and contribute to elevating the standard of eye care.
Hoda Abou-Jamra, Managing Director of TVM Capital Healthcare in Southeast Asia, expressed enthusiasm about the deal, stating, “This deal marks the most substantial investment by TVM Capital Healthcare in the region to date. We look forward to working closely with the management team of Alina Vision to execute our mutually agreed expansion plans. This investment is testament to our impact investment strategy, which is to design, build, and scale promising healthcare solutions that address patients’ needs and fill market gaps, ultimately contributing to equal access to quality healthcare.”
Ian Wishart, CEO of the Fred Hollows Foundation, shared his excitement about the collaboration, stating, “We are very pleased to have TVM Capital Healthcare on board to support us and the Alina Management team in scaling the business to help reduce avoidable blindness in Vietnam and the region. Alina Vision already invests significant resources in recruiting and training Ophthalmologists, Optometrists, and Nurses with our and Rohto’s help. We can now enhance our efforts and execute on our growth plans.”
