To support professionals interested in the topic of myopia management, ZEISS has committed to developing an educational program that includes several courses on aspects of myopia and solutions for myopia management. The first interactive course is now available online and free of charge to anyone interested in myopia and myopia management. More courses will follow in the future. The course is deliberately aimed not only at myopia experts, but at all interested parties from the optics and ophthalmology sectors who may have just started with myopia management or who would like to expand their existing knowledge.
The ZEISS Education Program for Myopia Management is designed to provide interested parties worldwide with the knowledge and skills to address the growing problem of myopia in children. It summarizes the latest evidence-based research and clinical practices. The course is carefully structured, practice-oriented and contains interactive elements to give participants a solid foundation in myopia management. The training consists of five chapters and a final test with 10 multiple-choice questions. If 80 percent of the questions are answered correctly, the course is considered completed and a certificate is received. The individual chapters last between 10 and 25 minutes, depending on the scope of the content.
Chapter one covers prevalence, risks, when to consider myopia control, and the evolution of myopia treatment over time. Chapter two examines risk factors, theories of myopia progression, and strategies to delay the onset of myopia, while chapter three focuses on predicting myopia progression and selecting appropriate treatments, including spectacle lenses. Chapter four discusses various options for treating myopia, such as soft contact lenses, Ortho-K, and atropine, as well as new treatment modalities. The final chapter presents strategies for communicating with parents and children about managing expectations regarding myopia treatment.
