Meta Platforms, Inc. and EssilorLuxottica have announced a groundbreaking advancement in smart eyewear technology, introducing the highly-anticipated Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses at this year's annual Meta Connect event. This latest collection of smart glasses promises a host of revolutionary features designed to elevate the way we experience and interact with the world.
The Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses boast an array of state-of-the-art capabilities that set them apart from previous iterations. For the first time ever, users can enjoy live streaming directly from their eyewear, complemented by the seamless integration of Meta AI. These smart glasses come equipped with an upgraded high-quality camera, superior audio systems, and a more user-friendly app and charging case.
One of the standout features of these glasses is the live streaming function, which empowers content creators to broadcast their real-time experiences and point of view (POV) in a hands-free manner. This breakthrough innovation adds an unprecedented level of authenticity and relatability to the content being generated, allowing users to share their perspective directly from their own eyes. Wearers can effortlessly switch between the glasses' camera and their phone's camera to go live on platforms like Instagram Live or Facebook Live for up to 30 minutes. Notably, the Meta AI functionality will be initially exclusive to the U.S. market, enabling users to employ voice commands like "Hey Meta" to delve deeper into their creative process and take control of various glasses features. In a commitment to user privacy, the company has enlarged and made the privacy LED light more conspicuous.
The Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses collection marks a significant leap forward in audio and camera quality. The camera has been upgraded from 5 MP to an ultrawide 12 MP, enabling users to capture high-quality photos and immersive 1080p videos in portrait orientation. The discreet open-ear speakers now offer enhanced bass response and noise suppression, significantly improving the overall audio experience. With five built-in microphones in each pair, users can seamlessly switch between music and calls while remaining attuned to their surroundings. This enhanced listening experience delivers exceptional bass response and noise suppression, ensuring a comprehensive audio experience whether users are enjoying their favorite album or reliving personally created moments.

The Ray-Ban Meta collection features 21 styles, colors, and lens variations, giving consumers powerful technology without compromising aesthetics or comfort. They are available in Wayfarer and Wayfarer Large, the most recognizable frame and an icon since the 1950’s, along with a new style to Ray-Ban, Headliner, a more inclusive and universal fitting design. Starting at a suggested entry price of US$299 (AUD 449) the Ray-Ban Meta collection comes with a classic compact and portable charging case to keep the glasses powered. The collection notably features an improved companion app, Meta View (iOS and Android), offering a seamless way to import content. The enhanced experience allows the wearer to easily share with friends or to any social app on their phone and pair multiple glasses to their phone, managing them in one place.
