In a significant move within the eyewear industry, eyewear group Marcolin has successfully concluded the acquisition of ic! berlin GmbH, an independent eyewear manufacturer based in Berlin since its establishment in 1996. This acquisition marks a pivotal moment for both companies, enhancing Marcolin's position in the market and providing ic! berlin with broader prospects under the Marcolin umbrella.
ic! berlin GmbH has earned numerous accolades for its exceptional eyewear designs, including the prestigious Silmo d'Or award. The company boasts a unique and impressive approach to its eyewear manufacturing process, overseeing everything in-house, from design and prototyping to manufacturing and assembly of luxury sunglasses and optical frames. With Marcolin's acquisition, ic! berlin's innovative craftsmanship and design expertise will now be closely integrated into Marcolin's operations.
Under this acquisition, Marcolin will gain full control of ic! berlin GmbH, absorbing approximately 140 employees based at the company's Berlin headquarters, its manufacturing plant, and two subsidiaries located in Japan and the United States. This strategic expansion enables Marcolin to further solidify its global presence and expertise in metal manufacturing, bolstering its luxury portfolio to tap into the significant potential within this segment. Following the acquisition, ic! berlin officially becomes one of Marcolin's house brands, joining the ranks alongside WEB EYEWEAR.
