ZEISS Snaps Up Vivior Assets in Push for Hyper-Personalised Lens Solutions

ZEISS Snaps Up Vivior Assets in Push for Hyper-Personalised Lens SolutionsZEISS Vision Care has acquired key assets of Swiss digital health innovator Vivior AG, in a move set to reshape how eye care professionals measure visual behaviour and prescribe personalised lenses.

The German optics giant announced the deal on 30 March 2026, acquiring Vivior's intellectual property, platforms, and data analytics capabilities. The acquisition signals a clear strategic direction for ZEISS: harnessing real-world behavioural data to drive the next generation of lens design and patient management.

Vivior built its reputation on monitoring and analysing how patients actually use their vision in daily life not just how they perform in a consulting chair. That distinction is significant for practitioners. Traditional refraction and fitting processes capture a snapshot of visual performance under clinical conditions, but Vivior's technology tracks how a patient's eyes behave across real environments and activities, providing a far richer data picture.

For optometrists and dispensing opticians, the practical implications are substantial. ZEISS says the combined capability will allow practices to offer lens solutions tailored not just to a patient's prescription, but to their specific visual habits and lifestyle demands from prolonged screen use to outdoor activities.

The acquisition also has direct relevance to two of the profession's most pressing challenges: myopia management and digital eye strain. With screen time continuing to rise across all age groups, the ability to objectively measure and respond to patients' visual behaviour in digital environments could strengthen both clinical outcomes and practice differentiation.

Existing Vivior customers, including eye care professionals already using the platform, have been assured of a seamless transition, with continued service and support now operating under the ZEISS umbrella.

The move reinforces ZEISS Vision Care's broader push into digital health, complementing its existing suite of ophthalmic instruments, lens technologies, and practice management tools. With annual group revenue approaching 12 billion euros and over 46,600 employees worldwide, ZEISS has the resources to develop Vivior's platforms at scale.

No financial terms of the acquisition were disclosed.
