US Eyecare Directory Putting Independent Practices on the AI Search Map

US Eyecare Directory Putting Independent Practices on the AI Search MapDallas-based Optical Near Me is capitalising on tournament tourism to push its new premium tier. The AI-search angle is worth watching from here.

Optical Near Me, a specialty eyecare directory founded in Dallas in 2024, is urging US and Canadian independent practices to optimise their digital listings ahead of this summer's FIFA World Cup. The platform which lists over 6,400 practices across 41 states and now Canada is betting that international visitors will search for local optometrists and eyewear boutiques in host cities such as Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago and Toronto.

Co-founder Ryan Markey framed the commercial opportunity clearly in the company's most recent release, noting that peak travel periods consistently boost consumer foot traffic but that the journey almost always begins with an online search. The platform's pitch to practitioners is simple: claim and optimise your listing now, or risk being invisible when demand peaks.

To coincide with the push, the company has launched a Premium Subscription tier featuring Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO), monthly audits showing how practices appear in AI-powered tools like ChatGPT and Google's AI Overviews, alongside AI-driven analytics and enhanced digital presentation tools including virtual frame try-on and curated brand galleries.

"When visitors or residents search for a trusted optometrist, our partners are prominently positioned to stand out online.", says Charlene Nichols, co-founder, Optical Near Me.

The GEO feature is the most noteworthy element. One listed practitioner, Barry Santini of LI Opticians in New York, reported that patients are already walking in off the back of AI referrals. "I get customers telling me every day that ChatGPT told them to come to us. It's a long-term investment in my social media presence and a website redesign that helped showcase our quality before patients even enter. The platform gives smaller practices an opportunity to compete more effectively in a digital-first environment.", says Barry Santini.

For Australian independent optometrists competing against corporate chains with large marketing budgets, the GEO concept is worth watching. As patients increasingly turn to tools like ChatGPT or Google's AI Overviews to ask "who is the best optometrist near me," the practices with well-structured, verified, and regularly updated digital profiles will have a measurable edge over those relying on word of mouth or a static website.

Optical Near Me is a North American platform only, but the shift it's responding to is global. As patients increasingly use conversational AI tools to find local health providers, practices with well-optimised, regularly updated digital profiles will have a growing edge whether they're in Dallas or down the road.
